Young defender David Oduogu expressed his great happiness at joining the Italian club AC Milan, confirming that he still can’t believe what happened in the last hours of the summer transfer window, which saw his move from Germany’s Wolfsburg to the Rossoneri.
In his first interview with “Milan TV,” the 19-year-old player said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling, a great day for me and my family. I signed for a big club and thank God for this opportunity. I am very happy and proud.”
Milan intensified its efforts during the last days of the transfer market to sign a defender, finalizing the deal with Oduogu, who signed a contract until June 2029 with an option to extend for an additional season.
Oduogu added about the final hours of the transfer: “Everything happened quickly on the last day. Within 24 hours, everything changed and I couldn’t fully grasp what happened, but the feeling was amazing. I am grateful to be here.”
Milan’s squad has undergone major changes this season, retaining only nine players from the previous lineup and signing big stars like Croatian Luka Modrić.
Oduogu continued: “When I realized I would play alongside players like Modrić, I felt like I was living a dream. I never imagined being his teammate. I’ve been following him since my childhood, and now I will learn from him and other great players.”
Regarding his ambitions with Milan, the Nigerian-born defender said: “I want to keep our goal clean, I am strong in one-on-one duels, and I am working on improving my physical and technical performance. I want to get better day by day.”
When asked about his role model in defense, he replied: “Milan has a rich history in defense, from Nesta to Maldini and Baresi. I don’t have a single favorite player, but I always follow the best, like Van Dijk. I aspire to become one of the best in the world.”
About choosing the number 27, he explained: “There was no particular reason, I just liked the look of the number on the jersey.”
At the end of his talk, Oduogu touched on his anticipated feeling when playing at San Siro stadium, saying: “I haven’t visited the stadium yet, but it will be amazing. I’ve watched many big matches and finals there, and I look forward to playing my games there soon.”
