Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz won the Japan Open Tennis Championship title on Tuesday after defeating American Taylor Fritz in the final match.
Alcaraz, the world number one in professional tennis rankings, beat Fritz, ranked fifth globally, with a score of 6-4, 6-4, securing his eighth singles title this year.
After winning his 24th singles title in his career, Alcaraz avenged his recent straight-sets loss to Fritz last week at the Laver Cup team event.
The young star also improved his season record to the best on the ATP Tour, achieving 67 wins against 7 losses, solidifying his grip on the top of the world rankings.
The Tokyo final marked Alcaraz’s ninth consecutive final since March, when he lost in the round of 64 at the Miami Masters.
Previously, the Spanish star had won 7 finals and lost 2, including one defeat to Italian Jannik Sinner at the Wimbledon Championships, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
