Barcelona, August 31, 2025 (WAL) – A fleet carrying humanitarian aid and activists is sailing today, Sunday, from Barcelona, Spain, in an attempt to “break the illegal siege” imposed by Israeli occupation forces on Gaza.
The number of ships has not yet been specified, but they will depart from the Catalan port “to open a humanitarian corridor and put an end to the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people,” according to the organizers of this initiative called the “Global Resilience Fleet.”
Brazilian activist Thiago Avila told journalists in Barcelona last week, “This will be the largest solidarity mission in history,” as “it will involve more people and ships than any previous attempts to reach Gaza.”
It is expected that “dozens” of additional ships will join the fleet, departing from Tunisia and other Mediterranean countries on September 4, along with demonstrations and “simultaneous activities” in 44 countries, according to Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, a member of the steering committee of the “Global Resilience Fleet,” who shared this on Instagram.
Thunberg said in a press interview yesterday that the ships in this new fleet heading to the Palestinian territory will seek “to reach Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, announce the opening of a humanitarian corridor, then bring more aid, and thus definitively break the illegal and inhumane Israeli siege on Gaza.”
