Stockholm (AFP) – Swedish tennis legend Björn Borg revealed in his upcoming autobiography that he is battling cancer, according to an excerpt published Thursday on the Italian Amazon website.

The Italian excerpt on the site stated, “Even the last, most important challenge, which is not over yet, against cancer,” although the English version’s introduction does not mention the illness.

Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that Borg is suffering from prostate cancer.

Borg, who turned 69 in June, dominated the Wimbledon and Roland Garros tournaments in the 1970s and early 1980s.

He won Roland Garros six times between 1974 and 1981, and Wimbledon five consecutive times from 1976 to 1980. He also reached the US Open final four times but lost each time. He led his national team to win the Davis Cup for the first time in 1975.

After playing rarely in 1982, Borg suddenly retired at the beginning of 1983 at the age of 26.

In 1991, Borg briefly returned to the courts using an old wooden racket.

Swedish publisher Norstedts, which is publishing the book, did not respond to requests for comment from AFP.

The book titled “Heartbeats” is scheduled to be published in English on September 18.
