Dr. Mohamed El-Tayeb, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat for Mental Health in Abbasia to follow up on the plan to improve the quality of medical services provided in mental health hospitals nationwide.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Peter Wagih, Assistant Minister for Therapeutic Medicine, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hakim, Head of the Central Administration for Therapeutic Medicine, Dr. Ahmed El-Nahhas, Head of the Central Administration of the National Council for Mental Health, Dr. Hend Ashour, Director General of Pharmaceutical Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Omar, Director General of Internal Audit and Governance, along with a team from the Internal Audit Department.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed that the Deputy Minister directed the strengthening of medical staff in vital specialties such as anesthesia and internal medicine, in addition to increasing the number of pharmacists, nursing staff, and dentists. He also emphasized equipping hospitals with modern medical devices and non-medical furnishings, ensuring the availability of a strategic stock of medicines and medical supplies to provide distinguished care for patients.

Abdel Ghaffar explained that the meeting addressed activating therapeutic protocols aligned with international standards and applying the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) standards through an executive plan to obtain accreditation. The Deputy Minister also directed the development of infrastructure and acceleration of digital transformation projects, including creating a unified medical file for patients across all mental health hospitals to ensure accuracy and quality of services.

He pointed out the Deputy Minister’s emphasis on monitoring development projects through citizen service and public relations departments to facilitate patients’ access to necessary care. He also called for enhancing international cooperation in mental health and exchanging expertise, in line with the state’s strategy to build an integrated health system that keeps pace with the latest global standards.
