The headquarters of the National Meteorological Institute will host a public astronomy night on September 7, 2025, under the theme “Astronomy for All.”
The program, according to the institute’s statement, includes an explanation of the total lunar eclipse phenomenon and observation of the moon during the eclipse, as well as tracking Saturn, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Triangulum Galaxy.
A total lunar eclipse will occur on Sunday, September 7, 2025, and this exciting astronomical event will be visible across Antarctica, Australia, Asia, the western Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, Europe, the eastern Atlantic Ocean, and Africa.
Conditions in Tunisia will be favorable for observing this total lunar eclipse, with the moon rising in a total eclipse state over Tunis at 18:35 local time, meaning observers will witness the red moon from the moment it appears.
The precise timings of the eclipse stages, according to a previous statement from the National Meteorological Institute, are as follows:
- Start of penumbral eclipse: 16:28 (moon below the horizon for all Tunisia).
- Start of partial eclipse: 17:27 (moon below the horizon for all Tunisia).
- Start of total eclipse phase: 18:30 (moon below the horizon for all Tunisia).
- Moonrise in Tunis: 18:35 (while in total eclipse).
- Eclipse peak: 19:11 (moon closest to the center of Earth’s shadow).
- End of total eclipse: 19:52 (moon begins to exit Earth’s shadow).
- End of partial eclipse: 20:56 (moon exits Earth’s shadow).
- End of penumbral eclipse: 21:55 (moon exits Earth’s penumbra).
