A Palestinian source reported on Sunday morning the killing of the spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, nicknamed “Abu Ubaida.” It was confirmed that Israel targeted an apartment where the Al-Qassam spokesperson was present, and the Israeli strike resulted in the death of everyone inside the apartment.

The source indicated that members of Abu Ubaida’s family and Al-Qassam leadership confirmed his death after examining the body.

The Israeli army spokesperson announced on Saturday the targeting of a prominent figure in Hamas in Gaza.

Avichay Adraee wrote on the “X” platform that the army attacked a “central figure” in Hamas in the northern Gaza City area using an aircraft.

Israeli media reported that the target of the Gaza strike was the spokesperson for the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, “Abu Ubaida,” with estimates of a 95% success rate for the assassination operation.

Channel 12 in Israel said, “Initial information about his location arrived last night, and at 5:30 pm this evening the strike was carried out.”

The channel quoted a senior Israeli official: “If Abu Ubaida was in the targeted building, there is no chance he survived this assassination attempt.”

Meanwhile, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated that if the assassination of “Abu Ubaida” succeeds, it will be of great significance, adding, “There is waiting for the result of the strike,” indicating uncertainty about the Palestinian spokesperson’s death.

It was clarified that the attack on a residential building in the Al-Rimal neighborhood west of Gaza City aimed to assassinate “Abu Ubaida.”

Although the results of the assassination attempt are not yet clear, the Israeli army continues to gather details, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation “Kan,” which quoted an Israeli source saying, “The operation seems successful.”

The attack on Abu Ubaida took place near a local bakery, where more than 10 people were killed in the operation, according to reports from Gaza.

The Israeli army said the attack was carried out using precision munitions with aerial surveillance.

It explained that shortly before the operation, focused intelligence information reached the Shin Bet and military intelligence “Aman,” followed by the assassination attempt.

The operation was executed from the special operations room of the Shin Bet due to Abu Ubaida’s central importance in Hamas.

According to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, Abu Ubaida is considered a key figure in Hamas, and if the assassination succeeds, it will cause a morale impact and damage Hamas’s cognitive operations.

It is noted that Abu Ubaida delivered a speech on Saturday threatening Israel that if it decided to invade Gaza City, it could lead to harm to the prisoners.
