A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a lawsuit filed by the administration of US President Donald Trump against all federal judges in Maryland due to an order issued by the chief judge that halted the immediate deportation of immigrants defying removal orders. District Judge Thomas Cullen, who was nominated by Trump in 2020 and serves in the Western District of Virginia, supported the judges’ request to dismiss the case. Cullen was assigned to oversee the case because all 15 federal judges in Maryland were named defendants, an unusual circumstance reflecting the aggressive Republican administration’s reaction against judges who slow down or stop its policies.
