Washington, through the acting US embassy chief Jeremy Brent, reaffirmed the necessity of unifying Libya’s military and security institutions to enhance stability. The Ministries of Interior and Defense of the interim Government of National Unity emphasized adherence to laws and the development of human rights programs within the Libyan military. Brent discussed with the Chief of Staff of the National Army, Khaled Haftar, in Benghazi, the security partnership between the two countries and the importance of unification for long-term stability benefiting the Libyan people. Haftar, in his first meeting after appointment, issued several decisions aimed at improving army efficiency and reorganizing it comprehensively, including a modernization plan and enhanced training and combat readiness. He also ordered tightened border security using integrated patrols linked to drones and advanced technology. Meanwhile, Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar met with the head of Turkish intelligence Ibrahim Kalin to discuss enhancing intelligence and security cooperation.

The US embassy also discussed economic development and reconstruction efforts with Belkacem Haftar. The Ministry of Defense coordinated with the UN mission to strengthen human rights within the military, while the Ministry of Interior urged travelers to comply with travel regulations, warned against illegal financial disclosures and unauthorized photography, and prohibited the buying or selling of personal-purpose cards like dollar cards for illegal activities.
