The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a joint statement on Tuesday following extensive talks between His Majesty King Abdullah II and the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in the city of Samarkand. The talks, held from August 25 to 26, 2025, focused on strengthening bilateral relations across political, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian fields. Both leaders agreed to intensify cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, sustainable energy, and modern technology. They emphasized the importance of holding the first Jordan-Uzbekistan economic forum soon and activating the Uzbek-Jordanian trade council to facilitate direct business communication.
The leaders highlighted the potential of both countries as unique cultural and historical tourism destinations and agreed to increase tourism exchange, promote joint tourism programs, and encourage investments that enhance connectivity. Cooperation in higher education, youth, sports, and cultural exchange programs was also underscored as vital tools for fostering friendship and mutual understanding.
During the visit, Jordan and Uzbekistan signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding covering joint cooperation committees, mutual investment protection, higher education, tourism, visa exemptions, customs cooperation, agriculture and food safety, air services, plant health, Islamic endowments, extradition cooperation, standards and metrology, and veterinary and animal health.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting development and economic goals aligned with Uzbekistan’s 2030 strategy and Jordan’s economic modernization vision. They called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to end the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people, urging the opening of all crossings for UN aid delivery and distribution. They emphasized the indispensable role of UNRWA in providing humanitarian aid and protection to Palestinians and called for increased political and financial support for the agency.
The leaders stressed that the only path to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, relevant UN resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the support of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. They condemned illegal Israeli actions undermining the two-state solution, including settlement activities, and stressed the need to respect the historical and legal status of Muslim and Christian holy sites in East Jerusalem.
President Mirziyoyev praised Jordan’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate Palestinian suffering in Gaza through land and air aid deliveries and field hospitals, expressing Uzbekistan’s readiness to cooperate with Jordan in providing urgent assistance. King Abdullah II commended Uzbekistan’s support for the two-state solution and humanitarian aid to Gaza, including medical treatment for Palestinians in Uzbekistan.
The leaders emphasized preserving the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, with President Mirziyoyev highlighting the importance of Jordan’s historic custodianship over these sites. He also acknowledged Jordan’s global leadership in promoting tolerance, moderation, and interfaith dialogue through initiatives such as the Amman Message, the Common Word, the Week of Interfaith Harmony, and the Al Al-Bayt Foundation for Islamic Thought.
King Abdullah II recognized President Mirziyoyev’s key role in fostering a new political climate in Central Asia characterized by mutual trust, solidarity, respect, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership. Both leaders stressed the importance of efforts to facilitate Afghanistan’s transition to peace, prosperity, and stability. They reiterated their commitment to continued coordination and mutual support within the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other multilateral forums to promote peace, security, and sustainable development.
King Abdullah II thanked President Mirziyoyev for his warm reception and hospitality, and both agreed to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges and to schedule the next official meeting through diplomatic channels.
