Writers in global newspapers and websites have called on Israel’s allies to halt all forms of security cooperation and impose serious sanctions on Israel due to the genocidal war it is waging against Gazans and the ongoing killing of journalists. The American site The Hill published a joint article by Billy Albrecht and Allen Weiner noting that an increasing number of experts and organizations confirm that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, urging allied countries to immediately stop all security cooperation that aids Israel’s excessive use of force against Gaza’s population. Matthew Paris, writing in the British Times, called on the world to exert effort to change the Israeli government and demanded serious sanctions on Israel.
He stated there is no hope for Gaza under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rule, adding that Israelis must realize their current government tarnishes their country’s reputation and is turning Israel into a pariah state. The British Guardian questioned the effectiveness of the Israeli military’s promised investigation into the killing of journalists in the Israeli bombing of the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, noting Israeli investigations rarely ensure accountability for military conduct. A report published this month showed that 88% of war crime investigations in Gaza were closed or left unresolved, and Israel’s investigation into the killing of Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh in 2022 remains incomplete. Israeli writer Yedidia Stern concluded in Yedioth Ahronoth that ending the Gaza war is Israel’s only strategic option, arguing that objective assessment would lead to the clear conclusion that ending the war is Israel’s highest strategic interest.
He emphasized that voluntary Palestinian migration or relocating Jews in Gaza are illusions detached from reality. Meanwhile, a New York Times report highlighted that Israel’s recent decision to expand settlements in the West Bank shows how far Netanyahu’s extremist government has gone in defying international norms for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Former US Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro said Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich holds the upper hand in the government and Netanyahu cannot confront him, while US President Donald Trump shows no desire to oppose this approach.
