On Tuesday, Qatar condemned the Israeli incursion into Syria, describing it as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and a challenge to the international will supporting Syria’s reconstruction and progress. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Israeli occupation forces’ incursions into Syrian territory constitute a flagrant breach of international law and undermine efforts to establish peace in the region. Qatar called on the international community to take decisive measures against the Israeli occupation and compel it to cease its repeated attacks on Syrian lands and its irresponsible actions that pose a serious threat to regional and international security. The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and the aspirations of its brotherly people for security and stability.
In August, the Israeli army penetrated the Quneitra province in southwestern Syria four times, the latest being early Tuesday, before Damascus announced the death of a civilian in an Israeli shelling of a home. Despite the new Syrian administration, established since late December 2024, posing no threat to Tel Aviv, the Israeli army has repeatedly infiltrated Syrian territory and conducted airstrikes killing civilians and destroying military sites, vehicles, weapons, and ammunition of the Syrian army. For seven months, the Israeli occupation army has held Mount Hermon and a security strip up to 15 kilometers wide in some southern Syrian areas. Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967 and expanded its occupation following the overthrow of the former regime head Bashar al-Assad in late 2024.
