Dr. Hani Sewilam, Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, called on countries worldwide to better align water and climate policies and to open the door for increased funding of water projects, integrating water systematically into national visions and strategies. During his participation in the high-level session “Global Water Pathway” at the World Water Week in Stockholm, Sewilam emphasized Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development by placing water as a cornerstone within Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the National Climate Strategy 2050. He highlighted Egypt’s leadership role during COP27, including the establishment of a dedicated Water and Climate Pavilion and launching the AWARe initiative under which the African Center for Water and Climate Training (PACWA) was inaugurated to provide training for African countries.
Sewilam also noted Egypt’s efforts in regional and international forums to place water at the center of climate and development discussions, stressing the importance of coordination between government bodies, farmers, and water users associations.
