The Consumer Protection Agency announced on Tuesday the seizure of 1150 counterfeit mattresses and 1953 counterfeit fabric labels bearing the names of major brand names, along with 4 rolls of plastic used for mattress packaging after manufacturing, and 20 mattress chassis made of iron and springs prepared for production. Following the necessary procedures, a report was filed and the case was referred to the public prosecution.
The agency had launched an extensive inspection campaign in Giza Governorate targeting major warehouses in Badrashin city, where mattresses are remanufactured using unknown source materials falsely labeled with technical specifications and famous brand names to mislead consumers and harm economic entities in Egypt.
The agency’s statement explained that this action responds to citizens’ complaints about the circulation of unknown-source mattresses in the Egyptian market bearing famous brand names, offered with deceptive technical capabilities and prices that do not reflect the real quality or specifications, prompting consumers to purchase these products.
Ibrahim El-Segini, head of the Consumer Protection Agency, said these qualitative strikes implement the Prime Minister’s directives to strengthen regulatory bodies’ roles in enforcing market discipline, combating harmful commercial practices, preventing the circulation of unknown or non-standard goods, and confronting all forms of commercial fraud and price manipulation with strict law enforcement to preserve market stability and consumer rights.
El-Segini emphasized the agency’s strong will to enforce the law and maintain market discipline through tight control, effective field presence, and enhanced direct communication channels between citizens and state institutions to fully protect consumer rights, ensure market stability, and achieve fair competition. He noted that controlling markets and commodity prices is a strategic priority for the state as it directly affects citizens’ economic security and reflects the state’s determination to confront any attempts to destabilize the market or violate consumer rights.
He stressed the agency’s firm resolve to apply the law without leniency against any violations and to restore full market discipline, confronting anyone who harms consumers or undermines trust in the national economy. Consumer protection is a national commitment exercised decisively by regulatory bodies, and the agency continues to intensify inspection campaigns across all governorates to monitor violations and combat any unregulated practices or circulation of unknown-source goods.
