The Sub-Unit for Child Protection in Al-Qurna, in cooperation with the Addiction Control and Treatment Fund in Luxor, carried out an extensive awareness campaign about the dangers of drug abuse in Al-Qurna city. The campaign was supervised by Mustafa Jibril, head of Al-Qurna city center, and Nagwa Ibrahim, director of the General Child Protection Unit in Luxor Governorate, under the directives of Engineer Abdel-Muttalib Amara, Governor of Luxor, and Dr. Iman El-Sebki, Child Protection Officer at the Ministry of Local Development.

Thuraya Rushdi, director of the Sub-Unit for Child Protection in Al-Qurna, explained that the campaign included visits to employees of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Al-Qurna, as well as tours through streets and squares of villages in Al-Qurna center and city to educate citizens. Members of the Addiction Control and Treatment Fund provided direct and easy-to-understand messages about the negative effects of addiction on mental and physical health and its destructive impact on families and society. Printed brochures were distributed containing the free hotline number (16023) of the Addiction Control Fund, which offers psychological support and free confidential treatment, and information about the nearest treatment center, Al-Azeema Center in Qena.

The campaign also introduced the smoking cessation hotline 16805, affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, which helps smokers quit smoking for free and provides necessary medical support. Additionally, it highlighted Law No. 73 of 2021 concerning conditions for occupying or continuing jobs, effective since January 2022, which mandates surprise drug tests for employees in the state administrative apparatus and employees in private institutions of public benefit.
