In a new campaign video, Valentina Gomez, the Republican congressional candidate from Texas, sparked outrage by burning a copy of the Quran using a flamethrower, as shown in the video she posted on her X account. Gomez appears in the video setting fire to the Quran and states it is necessary to “eliminate Islam” completely. Her voice is heard saying, “Muslims should go to any of the 57 Islamic countries… but here I will eliminate Islam in Texas… May God help me.” She added, “America is a Christian nation… and the only true God is the God of Israel.” The American politician wrote on her X account: “Help me get to Congress so you never have to submit to them.” Gomez is running for the 31st congressional district of Texas in the US House of Representatives, covering an area from northern Austin suburbs to Temple and Gatesville.
She accused Muslims of threatening Christian countries with violence and urged her supporters to back her victory to achieve her goal. While right-wing groups praised Gomez, the video provoked widespread anger and was condemned on social media as blind bigotry. Valentina Gomez shared the video on her social media accounts, pledging to eliminate Islam in Texas.
