The Japanese Nikkei index fell to its lowest level in two weeks on Tuesday as the yen rose following the announcement by US President Donald Trump of the dismissal of Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve Board. By 00:49 GMT, the Nikkei index dropped 1.4% to 42,215.57 points, marking its lowest level since August 12. The broader Topix index declined 1.19% to 3,068.57 points. The yen increased about 0.4% to 147 yen against the dollar after Trump took the unprecedented step of dismissing Lisa Cook over alleged violations related to two mortgage loans. Shares of Toyota Motor fell 1.26%, Honda Motor dropped 2.12%. Fast Retailing shares lost 2%, while Advantest and Tokyo Electron, leaders in the chip sector, declined 1.15% and 0.3% respectively.
