South Korean President Lee Jae-myung warned that North Korea is developing its capabilities to produce between 10 and 20 nuclear warheads per year, noting an increase in Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal over recent years. Lee stated that North Korea has developed an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States and continues to enhance its ability to produce 10 to 20 nuclear bombs annually. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal is estimated at fifty warheads, with enough fissile material to produce up to 40 more. Lee called for reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, reaffirming South Korea’s commitment to conventional deterrence while easing some provocative measures such as stopping anti-North Korean propaganda broadcasts across the border.
