Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the top Democrat on the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stated that Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza must stop following an airstrike that targeted a hospital and killed five journalists, including a collaborator with the Associated Press. Senator Shaheen told reporters during a call from Beirut, “I personally feel disgusted by the bombing in Gaza and the killing of journalists. I believe this must stop now.” Shaheen is currently touring the Middle East as part of a US delegation visiting the region to meet Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar’a. This stance comes as Democrats in Congress, historically strong supporters of Israel, have become more openly critical of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the war against Hamas.
