US envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack, after meeting Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa in Damascus, emphasized the necessity of representing all components to ensure Syria’s unity. Barrack wrote on X platform: “All components must be represented for Syria to be united, stable, and prosperous. Overcoming differences is achieved through dialogue, not violence.” Earlier, Barrack stated that Syrians should consider alternatives to a highly centralized system following violent events in Sweida, clarifying that a full federal system is not required but rather a less rigid formula that guarantees all components maintain their identity, culture, and language, away from ideological threats or religious extremism. He added that the current phase requires new approaches based on consensus and avoiding exclusion, and that national unity cannot be achieved through strict centralization alone. Earlier today in Damascus, Al-Sharaa received a high-level US delegation headed by Barrack, including Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Representative Joe Wilson.

The meeting discussed developments in Syria and the region, as well as ways to enhance dialogue and cooperation to achieve security and stability in the country.
