The United States and its allies in the Pacific region have deployed multiple aircraft carriers and F-35 fighters near China as part of a broader strategy to contain the Chinese military threat in the area. According to reports, countries such as Australia, Japan, and South Korea are involved in this deployment. The US Indo-Pacific Command stated that the F-35 fighters enhance joint operational capabilities and strengthen the unified combat power of the US and its allies. China’s embassy in Washington warned that the deployment of offensive weapons near its borders could turn the region into a ‘powder keg’ and called for respecting Beijing’s security concerns to maintain regional peace and stability. Japan hosts the largest foreign fleet of F-35s, planning to replace older F-15s with 48 F-35E fighters at the Misawa Air Base.

South Korea has ordered 60 F-35E fighters, with 40 already delivered, and plans to establish a second base due to threats from North Korea. Australia is the only country in the Southern Hemisphere to operate US F-35s, having acquired 72 F-35E fighters. The F-35 jets feature stealth technology and advanced sensors that enable rapid information sharing with command centers. Lockheed Martin has delivered over 1,215 F-35 fighters to 20 countries, operating from 37 air bases and 12 naval vessels. The US aims to expand the F-35 presence in the Western Pacific to counter China’s growing air power. Singapore is preparing to become the next regional operator after committing to purchase 12 F-35s.
