Major General Abdel Fattah Siraj, Governor of Sohag, today laid the foundation stone for the sewage project in the village of Awlad Azzaz and the Al-Minyawi area, at a cost of 378 million Egyptian pounds. The ceremony was attended by Engineer Mohamed Salah El-Din Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the Board of the Sohag Water and Wastewater Company, Engineer Magid Reda, Deputy Regional Director of the CES Consulting Office for the Middle East and North Africa, MPs Alfat Al-Mazlawi, Ahmed Awaja, and Hatem Mubarak, as well as Farida Salam, Head of Sohag Center and City.
The governor emphasized the importance of the project as part of the state’s efforts to advance infrastructure projects and achieve sustainable development aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life. He noted that the new station will serve thousands of residents in Awlad Azzaz, Al-Minyawi, and neighboring villages, contributing to alleviating residents’ suffering and protecting the environment and public health. He directed continuous monitoring of the project’s progress to ensure timely completion according to the set schedules.
The Chairman of Sohag Water explained that the project serves Awlad Azzaz village, Al-Minyawi area, and the villages of Al-Samaneh, Al-Sayed Gharib, and Al-Dahalba. The project is funded in cooperation with the German Development Bank (KFW), the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Commission (EU), and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), as part of the Water Supply and Sanitation Services Improvement Program, with a total value of 378 million Egyptian pounds.
The project includes a sewage lifting station for Awlad Azzaz village with a design capacity of 181 liters per second, a gravity network 21,000 meters long, and a discharge line 5,000 meters long. It also includes a lifting station for the Al-Minyawi area with a design capacity of 124 liters per second, a gravity network 13,000 meters long, and a discharge line 4,000 meters long. The project benefits approximately 40,000 people and has an implementation period of 18 months.
Governor Siraj confirmed that the governorate spares no effort in supporting and implementing service and development projects that contribute to improving citizens’ living standards. He met with several residents and congratulated them on the new projects, who expressed their happiness with the long-awaited sewage project.
