The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza following the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of the Nasser Medical Complex. According to reports received by the organization, two airstrikes hit the complex on Monday morning, killing at least 20 people, including 4 health workers and 5 journalists. Additionally, 50 others were injured, including critically ill patients receiving medical care. Tedros emphasized that while Gaza’s population suffers from hunger, their health situation worsens due to repeated attacks, urging: ‘Stop attacks on healthcare, stop the shooting now!’ The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza strongly condemned the heinous crime of directly targeting the only general hospital operating in southern Gaza, describing it as systematic destruction of the health system and continued genocide. The ministry reported 20 initial fatalities among health staff, patients, journalists, and civil defense members, with dozens injured.
The bombing caused panic, chaos, and disrupted operations, depriving patients and the wounded of their right to treatment. The ministry appealed for urgent international action to protect remaining health services and humanitarian workers in Gaza, stressing that international silence and inaction equate to complicity and allow the continuation of these crimes.
