The National Center for Wildlife Development announced record numbers of seabirds and large marine creatures this year within field exploration and monitoring programs in the marine and coastal environments of the Kingdom. Researchers documented sightings of more than 84,516 seabirds, including 50,356 along the eastern coast of the Arabian Gulf and over 34,160 representing 63 species along the western coast of the Red Sea. They identified 39 important migration and breeding sites, five of which are internationally recognized by BirdLife International as important coastal and marine areas for birds and biodiversity. The monitoring programs also recorded exceptional sightings of more than 1,219 large marine creatures, with 159 individuals on the eastern coast and 1,060 on the western coast, confirming the effectiveness of conservation efforts. These records enhance the Kingdom’s biodiversity database, support integrated sustainable environmental resource management, and align with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals to promote sustainable development and eco-tourism while raising environmental awareness.
