Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met on Monday with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, on the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah. Both sides expressed appreciation for the growing bilateral relations between Egypt and Tunisia and affirmed their joint keenness to enhance these relations in light of shared interests. They also looked forward to the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Supreme Joint Committee chaired by the Egyptian Prime Minister and the Tunisian Head of Government.
Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, Minister Abdel Aati outlined Egypt’s efforts, coordinated with regional and international parties, to reach a ceasefire agreement that ensures the release of hostages and prisoners and allows humanitarian aid to enter, highlighting the severe humanitarian consequences of the Israeli siege and starvation policy.
The ministers also discussed developments in Libya, emphasizing the importance of supporting the Libyan political process, the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces, and the continued activation of the tripartite mechanism of Libya’s neighboring countries. Minister Abdel Aati welcomed the UN Special Envoy for Libya’s announcement of a roadmap to resolve the Libyan crisis, particularly the formation of an interim government to prepare for national elections within 12 to 18 months.
They also touched on the situation in Sudan, where Minister Abdel Aati stressed Egypt’s firm position supporting Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its commitment to supporting Sudanese national institutions. He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to engage with initiatives aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire and ending the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people.
