Prince Mohammed bin Salman donated blood on Thursday, August 21, 2025, and launched the National Blood Donation Campaign, emphasizing that volunteering is not a luxury but an ethical and health infrastructure essential for any society aspiring to progress. The campaign aims to raise awareness about voluntary blood donation and achieve national self-sufficiency in blood and its components to ensure safe and sustainable supplies meeting patients’ needs across the Kingdom. In 2024, the number of blood donors in Saudi Arabia exceeded 800,000, indicating a broad participation base that can evolve into a lasting culture with institutional support. The Ministry of Health announced readiness of 185 accredited blood donation centers, aligning individual willingness to give with high-quality, safe reception and services. This initiative reflects a leadership message where the Crown Prince sets an example by leading voluntary work, bridging the gap between message and response, and encouraging government and community entities to expand field campaigns.
Blood donation, with its voluntary identity, represents a rare intersection between ethical and practical action: a humanitarian act saving lives, a public policy strengthening the health system, and a civil indicator of society’s maturity and self-confidence. Thus, the national campaign is more than a temporary event; it is the foundation of an extended culture of giving, nourished by leadership and supported by ready institutions, offering every citizen a simple yet impactful opportunity to save lives through blood donation.
