Dr. Nazeer Mohamed Eyad, Grand Mufti of the Republic and Secretary-General of the World Union of Islamic Scholars, met with Wan Mohamed Noor, Speaker of the Thai Parliament, and advisory council members in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Bangkok, Hala Youssef, and the Thai Ambassador to Cairo, Thanawat Sirikul. During his official visit to Bangkok, he emphasized the deep civilizational ties between Egypt and Thailand, highlighting Egypt’s religious institutions, including Al-Azhar and Dar Al-Ifta, as beacons of knowledge and intellectual references for Muslims worldwide. He expressed Egypt’s keenness to expand cooperation with Thailand in scientific, religious, and cultural fields. The Grand Mufti noted that Thai students in Egypt receive special care as ambassadors of knowledge and cultural communication, praising their high morals and adherence to tolerant Islamic values.
He also announced Dar Al-Ifta’s readiness to organize training programs for Thai imams and scholars to strengthen their capabilities in confronting extremist fatwas and to prepare scholars on a moderate and authentic methodology that promotes values of moderation and coexistence, a role Egypt plays globally against extremist ideology. Regarding the Palestinian cause, the Grand Mufti affirmed Egypt’s consistent and firm stance rooted in its historical, ethical, and religious commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in their just struggle for legitimate rights. He stressed that Egypt has never hesitated to assist the Palestinian brothers by opening crossings for humanitarian and medical aid and through continuous diplomatic efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and establish their independent state. He confirmed that the Israeli occupation stands as an obstacle to any just peace due to its obstinacy and violations of humanitarian values.
He personally witnessed the humanitarian tragedy during his visit to North Sinai, the main gateway for aid to Gaza, emphasizing that the scenes there reveal the magnitude of the catastrophe faced by the Palestinian people, calling for increased international solidarity and humanitarian conscience to end their suffering. Meanwhile, Wan Mohamed Noor expressed great appreciation for the Grand Mufti’s visit to Thailand, considering it an important stage in the history of bilateral relations. He praised Egypt’s leading role in the Islamic world and the scholarships Egypt offers to Thai students in various disciplines, which have contributed to graduating qualified generations of scholars, doctors, and specialists serving their country.
The Speaker also affirmed his country’s full solidarity with the Palestinian people, noting many Thai volunteers eager to provide support and humanitarian aid, and expressed Thailand’s hope for Egypt’s continued pivotal role in facilitating the delivery of this aid. He concluded by stating that Egypt remains a pivotal country in the Middle East and the world, with a firm and honorable stance on the Palestinian cause that is not subject to bargaining. The Grand Mufti’s visit to Thailand aims to strengthen communication bridges between Egypt and the Islamic world and to consolidate Dar Al-Ifta’s role in spreading the values of tolerant Islam and effective engagement with religious and Islamic institutions worldwide.
