Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, issued Decision No. 2812 of 2025 appointing Dr. Islam Abdel Azim Azzam as Chairman of the Board of the Egyptian Exchange for one year. Dr. Azzam has held numerous positions including Deputy Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority from January 2021 to August 2025, overseeing capital market, insurance, and non-banking finance sectors. He has also served as advisor to the head of the Real Estate Finance Authority and assistant to the chairman of the Capital Market Authority. Academically, Dr. Azzam is a finance professor at the American University in Cairo, having chaired the finance department for graduate studies from 2005 to 2021. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Irvine, with expertise in econometrics, economic forecasting, and monetary policies. Dr. Azzam is a member of various boards including the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Unit, the Egyptian Arab Land Bank, and several financial and industrial institutions.
He has published numerous research papers in international peer-reviewed journals in finance and econometrics.
