The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned Israel’s obstinacy and refusal to respond to ceasefire attempts in the Gaza Strip, and rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements about ‘Greater Israel’. In a final statement from its emergency meeting of foreign ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the OIC called on the UN Security Council to hold a session on the ‘aggression against the Palestinian people’ and strongly condemned the assassination of journalists and media personnel in Gaza today. The organization expressed support for the efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The statement demanded the opening of crossings and the unhindered delivery of aid to Gaza, while ensuring the freedom of operation for relief agencies, foremost among them the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The meeting emphasized the necessity for the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities throughout the occupied territories. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that the continuation of Israeli violations without accountability undermines the international system. During the emergency OIC ministerial meeting held in Jeddah to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, the Saudi minister added that the international community must immediately put an end to the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for a collective Islamic action for the Palestinian people and to keep Israel under strong and coordinated pressure to reach a two-state solution.
Fidan said in his speech that the Israeli government does not want peace but seeks to erase the Palestinian people entirely from their land, ‘which we will not allow.’ He warned of the threat to the continuity of the State of Palestine due to provocations by extremists, including Israeli ministers, in Jerusalem, noting that these developments endanger the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. He added that the urgent priority is to achieve a permanent ceasefire and ensure the delivery of extensive humanitarian aid to Gaza. Regarding attacks on neighboring countries, Fidan considered Netanyahu’s illegal attacks on Syria, Lebanon, and Iran as part of broader and ‘more malicious’ plans that threaten to destabilize the entire region.
