The Emirates Consumer Protection Association warned against fake and suspicious websites, platforms, and pages on social media that sometimes use government logos and claim to specialize in protecting consumers and ensuring their rights. These fake platforms investigate consumer complaints but then lure consumers into paying fees to resolve their complaints or request transfers of money from their bank accounts and access to personal accounts. The association confirmed it does not charge any fees for resolving consumer complaints and urged consumers not to respond to any requests for fees or money transfers and to block and report such entities immediately. The association’s secretary general, Mohammed Abdullah Al Naour, stated that the association is an official body responsible for protecting consumer rights and awareness, providing this service free of charge, and never requesting payment links or bank account details.
He noted that fake platforms claim to protect consumers, guarantee their rights, and provide official complaint submission services, promising confidentiality and responses within 48 hours, but in reality they aim to defraud consumers. These platforms use complaint forms similar to official ones and cover various common complaint types such as additional fees, commercial fraud, defective products, annoying calls, misleading advertising, and violations of contractual agreements. The association warns consumers to be vigilant and report any suspicious requests immediately.
