Counselor Ahmed Al-Bandari, Executive Director of the National Election Authority, stated that the numerical tallying for the runoff round of the Senate elections for Egyptians abroad is conducted by the head of each committee. He added during a press conference on Monday evening that a decision was issued by the Authority’s board for the committee heads to be members of diplomatic missions and ambassadors, who are responsible for the numerical monitoring of votes each candidate received. These data are sent to the Authority’s headquarters to be aggregated with the votes inside Egypt according to the electoral districts where voting takes place. He noted that any citizen residing inside Egypt has the right to vote according to the residence recorded in the national ID card, confirming that the constitution allows citizens who are abroad during the early voting days to exercise their political right to vote.
He also stated that if a person residing abroad is present inside Egypt during the voting process, they can vote in the electoral district registered according to their residence on the national ID. Voting began this morning for the runoff round of the 2025 Senate elections inside consulates and embassies in the African continent. The runoff round involves 10 candidates competing for 5 seats across five different governorates: Gharbia, Beni Suef, Ismailia, Luxor, and New Valley. Voting abroad continues until Tuesday, while voting inside Egypt will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
