French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday that starving an entire people is a crime that must stop immediately. He noted his discussions with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani regarding the tragic situation in Gaza. Macron said, “We are working closely with Qatar to ensure the success of mediation efforts and to prepare for the two-state solution conference in New York on September 22.” Meanwhile, the German Foreign Ministry expressed shock over the killing of journalists, rescue workers, and other civilians in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, emphasizing the need to investigate the attack on Nasser Hospital. The ministry repeatedly called on the Israeli government to grant journalists access and protection in Gaza. The UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, demanded protection for medical and press teams in Gaza and a swift investigation into their targeting and deaths, highlighting the recent horrific massacres.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed the necessity to stop attacks on health facilities and called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Politico reported that the UNRWA media director stated that famine in Gaza is a decision by Israeli officials to starve the people. Conversely, 73% of Israelis support ending the war and making a prisoner exchange deal. An Agam Institute poll published by Israeli site Walla showed two-thirds of Israelis believe the war is managed based on political considerations. The poll indicated that 64% of soldiers think the war is politically driven, with 40% of regular and reserve soldiers reporting decreased motivation. It also showed that 54% of Likud voters support ending the war via a prisoner exchange deal, and 73% of reserve and regular soldiers also favor ending the war, while only 26.1% support its continuation.
