Kuwait’s Ambassador to Malta, Mishaal Al-Mudhaf, met with Malta’s Deputy Foreign Minister Christopher Cutajar to discuss ways to enhance relations between the two friendly countries and several international issues, foremost among them the situation in Gaza. The Kuwaiti embassy in Malta stated that Ambassador Al-Mudhaf expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for Malta’s government’s intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine, considering it a step that will contribute to achieving what is stipulated in relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative regarding enabling the Palestinian people to exercise self-determination and establish their independent state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Al-Mudhaf also noted that the Maltese side has a sincere desire to expand the frameworks of relations with Kuwait to include all fields, especially economic and tourism.
Last month, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela announced his country’s intention to recognize the sister State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled for September.
