The Saudi basketball team revived their hopes of qualifying by defeating Jordan 77-73 on Thursday in the second round of Group 3 matches in Jeddah during the Asian Basketball Cup. The Saudi team compensated for their first-round loss to China 88-93, while Jordan suffered their first defeat after starting their Asian campaign with a win over India 91-84 in overtime. China leads the group with four points, followed by Saudi Arabia with three points, ahead of Jordan and India. Saudi players, led by American-origin Mohamed Ali Abdulrahman and the giant Mohamed Al-Suwailem, performed excellently, especially in the first quarter. Saudi Arabia expanded the lead gradually, reaching a maximum of 22 points in the third quarter before Jordan reduced the gap. Mohamed Ali Abdulrahman was the top scorer for Saudi Arabia with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. New Zealand also secured their second consecutive win against the Philippines 94-86.
New Zealand will face Chinese Taipei to decide the top of Group 4, while the Philippines will play Iraq to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.
