Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today (Monday) via Fox News that it is impossible to cede any Ukrainian territories to Russia.
Zelensky wrote on his X account before heading to Washington: “We are ready to work constructively towards peace,” noting that “Russia can only be forced to peace by force, and President Trump possesses this power.”
Zelensky accused Russia of launching attacks against civilians in Ukraine to undermine his talks with Trump, stating that his country has been subjected to brutal and conscience-lacking Russian strikes.
He added: “The Russian war machine continues to claim lives despite everything, and Putin will carry out show killings to keep pressuring Ukraine and Europe, mocking diplomatic efforts as well.”
Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump outlined the message he will convey to his visitors at the White House, which includes Zelensky having to agree to some of Russia’s conditions to end the war in Ukraine. According to CNN, the U.S. President confirmed that Zelensky could end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wished, or continue fighting.
The network pointed to the pressure Zelensky will face today, in addition to the two conditions set by Vladimir Putin to end the war, mentioned by Trump, which include Ukraine ceding the Crimean Peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, and agreeing never to join NATO.
CNN noted that European leaders visiting the White House with Zelensky today are concerned that the meeting will lead to Trump pressuring the Ukrainian leader to accept the conditions Putin proposed at their summit in Alaska last week.
