The American businessman Erik Prince, former founder of Blackwater, has returned to the international arena through a new security company called ‘Victus Global’, aiming to reestablish his role in the private security sector after more than a decade of decline following scandals involving his previous company in Iraq. Prince started his new activities from Lima, Peru, meeting with businessmen and mine owners from the Puno region who requested special security intervention to address escalating violence in mining areas lacking state presence. He offered his company’s services, referencing armed drone operations carried out by his mercenaries in Haiti, which, according to UN reports, resulted in at least 233 deaths including three civilians during April and May. Prince demanded at least $10 million annually to deploy specialized security units to track criminal gangs, with funding potentially from governments or private coalitions.
His company has expanded recently to Ecuador, assisting the army and police against drug networks, and to the Democratic Republic of Congo, securing tax collection from mines and preventing smuggling of strategic metals like cobalt. Despite denials of direct coordination by the White House, Prince benefits from close ties to figures near former President Trump. His new activities have drawn criticism from human rights organizations and Western officials concerned about private entities conducting security operations in fragile environments without legal oversight. The Haitian Prime Minister defended cooperation with Prince, stating that violence has stopped since the air operations supported by his company began. Prince continues his regional tours, ready to work with private parties if government mandates are not granted, as the concept of ‘security privatization’ resurges in a new form led by a man experienced in hybrid warfare and political decision networks.
