Journalist Ola El Shafiee, editor-in-chief of Youm7, mourned Dr. Yehia Azmi, professor of film directing at the Higher Institute of Cinema, after his passing this morning. She posted a photo of the late director on her Facebook account, commenting: “Farewell my dear professor Dr. Yehia Azmi, you were closest to hearts, the most gentle and understanding, and your presence was always like a light breeze that leaves us comfort and peace.” She added: “I learned a lot from you, and you were a support and source of inspiration I will never forget as long as I live. Peace to your fragrant soul, and your memory will remain alive and never fade.” The funeral will be held today, Tuesday, after noon prayer at the Police Mosque in Sheikh Zayed, with burial at Al-Ghafeer Cemetery in Al-Gamalia.
The condolence gathering will be held next Saturday after Maghrib prayer at the Police Mosque in Sheikh Zayed, in Al-Razzak Hall. The Academy of Arts mourned the deceased in a post on its Facebook page stating: “Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return. Professor Dr. Yehia Azmi, professor of film directing at the Higher Institute of Cinema, husband of Dr. Ghada Gabara, President of the Academy of Arts, has passed away. We pray for mercy for the deceased and patience and solace for his family.” Dr. Ashraf Zaki, head of the Actors Syndicate, also mourned Dr. Yehia Azmi, praising his distinguished contributions to the Cinema Institute and his role in graduating generations of creatives.
