The Israeli army announced the discovery of the body of a reserve officer in northern Israel, stating that he committed suicide during his official military service. This raises the number of military suicides since the beginning of the year to 18, according to Israeli media. The army opened an investigation and noted that the officer belonged to the 99th Division currently fighting in the Gaza Strip. The officer, aged 28, had participated in recent fighting in Gaza. An Israeli army investigation published on August 3 revealed that most suicide cases in the army are linked to combat conditions in Gaza. Since the start of the Gaza war, approximately 3,770 soldiers have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Meanwhile, the military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad regularly report Israeli soldier casualties and destruction of military vehicles during battles in Gaza.
Since October 2023, the Israeli occupation army, supported by the US, has waged a war of extermination on Gaza’s population, resulting in over 61,000 Palestinian deaths, more than 154,000 injuries, and the near-total displacement of Gaza’s residents amid unprecedented destruction since World War II.
