The markets in the Kingdom witness an annual competition before the start of the school year through systematic marketing campaigns aimed at attracting consumers and shoppers, whether parents, students, teachers, or various entities related to the back-to-school season and its affiliates. Prices of goods and services vary according to their type, ranging from expensive items to regular goods needed by consumers at the beginning and during the school year. Cars or transportation means are among those goods that dealerships and showrooms rush to market through campaigns offering opportunities not available during other times of the year, such as low-profit margins, exemption from down payments or administrative fees, and deferral of some advanced installments. Additionally, there is a warranty for 3 years or 100,000 km, along with free roadside assistance.
Several experts emphasized the necessity of caution when dealing with these campaigns and the importance of making wise choices to avoid the traps of car installment campaigns and other misleading offers and advertisements.
Hani, former chairman of the Automotive Committee in the Eastern Province Chamber, stated that there are many benefits for consumers during seasonal offers and campaigns built around specific occasions like back-to-school or holidays. However, there are also many risks, so it is essential to advise consumers, both male and female, about the importance of ensuring the suitability of the car they intend to buy, whether it truly meets their needs, and to confirm the availability of after-sales services and spare parts, despite current regulations protecting consumers and defending their rights.
Hani Al-Afaleq pointed out the importance of caution regarding the temptations included in car marketing campaigns by carefully studying the entire offer, as the total amount the consumer will pay in installments might be much higher due to interest rates and various fees, despite the low monthly installment. Consumers should also consider their financial capacity to ensure they can meet monthly installments and the often high final payment, which causes many problems not accounted for by the consumer.
Meanwhile, commercial advisor Dr. Abdulrahman Mahmoud Beibah said that the back-to-school period witnesses many attractive offers and facilities, especially for expensive goods like cars, technical devices, or financing loans. This is natural amid competition among merchants eager to attract consumers and stimulate purchases to increase sales and promote their brands. Consumers, whether parents, students, teachers, or related entities, should deal wisely with these offers to avoid falling into the trap of loans that are difficult to repay and monthly installments that will burden the family budget in the future.
Dr. Abdulrahman Beibah also noted the large number of car brands in the Saudi market, including well-known global brands and many emerging Chinese and Asian companies, all competing to attract consumers. Therefore, it is important for consumers to be aware of these facts and ensure when purchasing a car that it meets appropriate standards of quality, durability, and safety, without being distracted by additional exterior and interior accessories or flashy colors used to attract especially young or inexperienced buyers.
