European Union Security and Foreign Affairs Commissioner Kaya Kallas stated after a video conference with European foreign ministers that efforts are underway to impose additional sanctions on Russia, increase military support for Ukraine, and support its accession process to the European Union. The EU countries expressed support for the American steps that will lead to a just peace in Ukraine. A joint European statement indicated that European leaders are ready to provide diplomatic, military, and financial support to Kyiv within the so-called ‘coalition of the willing’ and to impose sanctions on Russia. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns that the upcoming Russia-US summit in Alaska might resolve settlement issues without Kyiv’s participation. The Alaska summit between Trump and Putin is scheduled for August 15, and the White House is seriously considering inviting Zelensky, with senior US officials describing the invitation as ‘under consideration’ and ‘quite possible.’
