The Chairman of the Al-Qatraneh Municipality Committee in Karak Governorate, Engineer Rasmi Al-Tarawneh, stated that the committee has accomplished many tasks that contributed to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of the municipality’s performance in environmental, administrative, and organizational aspects, as well as addressing some challenges, which positively impacted meeting service requirements and fulfilling citizens’ needs.
Engineer Al-Tarawneh told “Al-Rai” that since assuming their duties, the committee has prioritized public cleanliness and providing environmental necessities by improving waste management, developing collection, transportation, and safe disposal mechanisms, monitoring performance, and organizing cleaning campaigns in cooperation with official and community entities.
He pointed out that these efforts culminated in launching the municipality’s “Weekly Cleanliness Day” initiative in cooperation with the Al-Qatraneh District Governorate, security agencies, and schools, designating every Wednesday for the initiative, alongside activating and organizing field staff work to raise community awareness about the importance of maintaining public cleanliness, avoiding littering, and preserving the environment and the area’s aesthetics.
He explained that to raise the level of cleaning services, the municipality recently awarded a tender to purchase a new waste compactor worth 100,000 Jordanian Dinars to add to its existing fleet of five cleaning vehicles, in addition to issuing a tender to buy 65 waste containers to distribute across neighborhoods to address the problem of random waste dumping, which negatively affects the visual and civilizational scene.
The municipality is preparing to carry out a series of beautification works at the town entrance and median islands and plant the site with suitable ornamental trees in cooperation with the Jordanian Youth Council in northern Jordan.
In coordination with the Directorate of Agriculture, a mural and illuminated signs will be installed at the entrance according to approved technical specifications, while, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works, the main street lighting within the municipality boundaries, extending from the Karak Bridge to Petra Rest Area, has been restored.
On the administrative side, the committee chairman stated that modern digital systems have been adopted for archiving and transaction management to reduce time and effort and increase transparency in administrative procedures, alongside activating employee monitoring and evaluation systems and precisely distributing tasks and responsibilities.
He pointed out the urgent need to appoint staff as attendance monitors, drivers, and guards to ensure performance efficiency and quality of services, noting that the committee’s temporary assignment of employees with different titles to fill these roles was a stopgap solution to cover shortages.
He confirmed that the municipality’s financial situation is comfortable, with no deficit or debts on the budget, highlighting the adoption of resource monitoring and expense control mechanisms to oversee the movement of machinery and vehicles and electronically and accurately track fuel consumption, contributing to regulating machinery use and preventing unauthorized use outside official work scope, all within the municipality’s vision to achieve effective resource governance and promote good management concepts.
He noted that the municipality, according to legal frameworks, has taken necessary measures against a contractor who failed to implement a previous street paving tender worth 93,000 Jordanian Dinars; a final legal warning will soon be issued, and the tender withdrawn if the work is not completed according to contractual terms.
Al-Tarawneh pointed out that the municipality seeks to expand its organizational boundaries by annexing new areas, including some sites with major industrial facilities, to generate financial resources supporting its budget. The municipality also contacted the Royal Scientific Society to inspect the former municipality building and conduct required tests to assess its structural safety, based on which appropriate action will be taken either to reinforce the building or demolish it completely and invest the site for other purposes serving the municipality.
