Al-Ansari said in an interview with Fox News on Monday: “This is a historic day and a day we have waited for years, especially during the past two years,” noting that the region has witnessed during these two years “a level of escalation not seen in decades.”
He added: “We are very grateful to President Trump for coming to the region today and signing to end the war… We hope this is the first step among many towards establishing peace and stability in the region under President Trump’s leadership, who will work with other leaders in the region.”
He pointed out that “the next steps will be very difficult, and we postponed discussions about the second phase to ensure the first phase is achieved. Now all hostages are in their homes at this moment, and difficult discussions have begun on how Gaza will be secured and managed to ensure we do not go to war again.”
He confirmed that “our teams are now working to ensure there is no time gap between the first and second phases.”
Regarding the prospects of implementing the agreement, Al-Ansari said: “We are confident in what President Trump said today and confident in the plan. We have worked very closely with him to implement this plan on the ground, but I must say the challenges ahead are not easy, and we all have to work to ensure its success,” adding, “We have learned from the experience of this war and other conflicts in the region to be cautiously optimistic, and if we were not hopeful, we would have no way forward.”
This comes after the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which was dedicated to the agreement on a ceasefire and the release of detainees in the Gaza Strip. At its conclusion, leaders from the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, along with leaders from several other countries, signed a document confirming their determination to achieve peace in the region.
