US President Donald Trump praised his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, describing him as a strong leader, and said the United States stands with President Sisi until the end. He confirmed that Egypt played an important role in ending the war in Gaza, while Sisi affirmed that Trump is the only one capable of achieving peace and awarded him the “Nile Collar,” the highest honor in Egypt.

Trump, in a meeting with Sisi before the opening of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, said the Middle East is going through a special period, noting the start of the second phase of ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas. Trump confirmed that Egypt played a key role with Hamas to reach the latest ceasefire agreement. He added that Washington is working to enhance efforts to save the situation in Gaza and clear the rubble from the sector.

He added that there is a lot of debris and rubble in Gaza and that the sector needs a cleanup operation, affirming that many leaders support the agreement. He continued: “There are fools and those who do not want good, but countries can deal with each other even if they do not like each other,” pointing out that teams are currently searching for the bodies of Israeli captives in Gaza.

He also said he believes Iran will join because it needs aid amid sanctions imposed on it, noting that it supports the Gaza agreement which he said “is unprecedented,” and that “it would not have happened without bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities.”

For his part, Sisi said his country needs Trump’s support for the Gaza reconstruction conference, adding: “We must ensure the entry of aid to Gaza and the delivery of the bodies of Israeli hostages to their families.”

Sisi confirmed that Trump “is the only one capable of achieving peace in the region,” and that the Gaza agreement is a “great achievement,” praising what President Trump has accomplished.

The Egyptian president also stressed the urgent steps for the next phase, explaining that “the priority now is to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and follow up on the steps to make the peace agreement successful.”

Regarding humanitarian efforts and post-war efforts, the Egyptian president pointed to the need to ensure the entry of aid and look forward to supporting the reconstruction conference. He said: “We must ensure the entry of aid to Gaza and the delivery of the bodies of Israeli detainees.”

He continued: “We look forward to President Trump’s support for the Cairo conference for early recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip in November 2025.”

Before arriving in Sharm El-Sheikh, Trump announced that the war in Gaza had ended, which Netanyahu confirmed during his speech in the presence of the US president.

The Egyptian president awarded his American counterpart the “Nile Collar,” the highest honor in Egypt, in recognition of his prominent contributions to supporting peace efforts and defusing conflicts in the region, most recently his pivotal role in reaching the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Sisi said: “In appreciation of President Donald Trump’s efforts, the Arab Republic of Egypt announced before the esteemed attendees the decision to award him the Nile Collar, the highest honor in the country, granted to heads of state and those who provide great services to humanity.”
