Political analyst Dr. Abdel Moneim Said stated that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi succeeded in “decoding” the way to deal with former US President Donald Trump, which was based on Trump’s personal nature favoring direct relationships and appreciation. This enabled Egypt to manage sensitive issues, most notably the firm diplomatic rejection of the Palestinian displacement plan, preventing any confrontation.

Said explained during his interview with journalist Ahmed Salem on the program “Kalimah Akhira” aired on “On” channel, that the relationship between the two presidents was characterized by friendliness from the start and was not based on challenge. He added that “President Sisi realized that Trump believes in personal relationships and likes to be praised,” which allowed Egypt to achieve its interests through smoother methods than direct confrontation.

Regarding Egypt’s stance on the displacement issue, Said confirmed that Egypt rejected the proposal decisively and fundamentally, but the manner of rejection was the most important. He continued: “Trump did not take a hostile position because the Egyptian response was not a challenge, but firm and disciplined, emphasizing that this is a ‘geopolitical’ matter and not open for discussion, which Trump understands.”

Said considered that the main turning point in Trump’s policy towards the region, which enhanced Egypt’s negotiating role, was his visit to the Gulf region. He pointed out that Trump realized during that visit that leadership style in the region depends on direct communication and quiet channels rather than public speeches, which explains his acceptance of Egypt’s pivotal role later.
