German Development Minister, Reem Al-Abli Radovan, announced on Sunday that Germany is preparing to pledge at least 100 million euros — a three-digit million figure whose exact value has not been disclosed — to support the reconstruction of Gaza.
Al-Abli Radovan told the German ARD channel that part of the development aid, which was frozen after Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, is now available again.
The exact amount has not yet been specified, with Al-Abli Radovan only stating that the contribution will be a three-digit million figure.
It is worth noting that large parts of Gaza, including hospitals and schools, have been destroyed or damaged due to two years of bombardment. The United Nations Development Programme previously reported that Israeli attacks on Gaza caused the worst destruction the world has seen since World War II.
In June, the German Ministry of Economy stated that Germany, a strong supporter of Israel during its aggression in Gaza, approved arms exports worth nearly half a billion euros to Israel from October 7, 2023, to May 13, 2025.
Al-Abli Radovan said Germany will now also provide direct aid for the transitional phase in Gaza, such as emergency shelters that have already been prepared.
At the same time, Al-Abli Radovan emphasized that the overall cost of rebuilding Gaza is very high and Germany cannot bear it alone. She said, “We must accomplish this together as part of the international community.”
Germany, in cooperation with Egypt, intends to invite participants to a conference for Gaza’s reconstruction. The minister said, “This conference will be held in the coming weeks,” adding that she expects more details to emerge in the coming days.
