The organizing committee of the “Support Beekeepers and Sidr Honey Production” initiative in Ras Al Khaimah announced the great turnout since its launch, with the number of registered participants exceeding 100 from the emirate’s residents. This reflects the growing awareness of the importance of this vital sector and its role in supporting the local economy and providing high-quality national products that contribute to enhancing food security.
Participation in the initiative is divided into two main branches: “Supporting Beekeepers” and “Cutting Home Honey,” according to approved standards and requirements, as part of the emirate’s efforts to empower small productive sectors, encourage sustainable agriculture, and improve the quality of local honey production.
Saud Sultan Buleila, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, confirmed that the initiative enjoys special sponsorship and attention from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, in recognition of its role in empowering beekeepers and encouraging them to expand Sidr honey production, one of the emirate’s most prominent natural products. The chairman explained that the awards include 20 winners for each category, with the first-place winner receiving 25,000 AED, and the prize amounts gradually decreasing to the twentieth place. He emphasized that the evaluation process will be based on precise criteria focusing on honey quality, product purity, and participants’ commitment to approved environmental and production standards.
He added, “The Support Beekeepers initiative represents a stimulating platform for innovation in the local honey sector, encouraging the adoption of modern practices in beekeeping and production improvement, fostering competition among beekeepers, and ensuring their development and qualification to apply best practices, in line with Ras Al Khaimah’s directions to develop agricultural and environmental sectors and enhance their sustainability.” He pointed out that the initiative translates Ras Al Khaimah’s vision for sustainable development by empowering individuals and supporting small and medium-sized projects with environmental and productive characteristics, enhancing community participation in achieving self-sufficiency in local natural products, contributing to building a sustainable economy based on diversity, utilizing local resources, and improving quality of life in the emirate.
