A health official stated that the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has begun preparing Nasser Medical Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip to receive hundreds of prisoners who will be released by Israel on Monday, under the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Tel Aviv that took effect on Friday.

Munir Al-Barash, the ministry’s general director, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday that the released Palestinian prisoners will be transferred immediately upon arrival to Nasser Hospital for health evaluation and medical examination, with those needing hospitalization staying at the hospital.

As of 11:25 GMT, Hamas and the Palestinian authorities concerned with prisoners’ affairs had not published a list of the Palestinian detainees Israel intends to release. However, Israel published on Friday a list of 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 other detainees expected to be released under the agreement.

Regarding aid entering the Gaza Strip, Al-Barash said they hope that the aid trucks expected to arrive in the coming hours will include medicines, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, devices, and other necessities.

He confirmed that the primary needs of Gaza’s health sector after two years of Israeli aggression exceed $7 billion, noting that the ministry is still in the process of determining these needs.

According to the latest statistics from the Gaza government office, Israel, during two years of aggression, bombed and destroyed 38 hospitals, 96 healthcare centers, 197 ambulances, and 61 rescue and firefighting vehicles.

The ministry and local and international human rights reports have repeatedly warned of a total collapse of the health system due to deliberate Israeli targeting and severe shortages of medical supplies and medicines caused by border closures.

With U.S. support, Israel has committed a genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, resulting in 67,682 deaths and 170,033 injuries, most of whom are children and women, along with famine that claimed the lives of 463 Palestinians, including 157 children.

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on the first phase of his ceasefire and prisoner exchange plan following indirect negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh, with participation from Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, under U.S. supervision.

The first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect at 12:00 noon Jerusalem time (09:00 GMT) on Friday after the Israeli government approved the agreement early that morning.

The plan proposed by Trump is based on stopping the war, a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army, mutual prisoner releases, immediate entry of aid into Gaza, and disarmament of Hamas.
