The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates every year on November 4th the birthday of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. This day is a special spiritual and humanitarian occasion for Copts inside Egypt and abroad, symbolizing the paternal figure embodied by the Patriarch who leads the church with a spirit of service and love.

The Mar Girgis Cathedral in Abbassia and several churches hold thanksgiving liturgies on this occasion, while congratulatory messages pour in from metropolitans, bishops, monks, priests, and the Coptic people, as well as state leaders, national bodies, and public figures, in appreciation of his national and spiritual role since assuming church leadership in 2012.

Each year on this occasion, Pope Tawadros emphasizes that life is not measured by years but by the work, achievements, and service offered to others, focusing on the value of giving and love as the path of Christian and national life. Many church members describe His Holiness as “a father before being a patriarch,” due to his calm paternal style and continuous communication with people inside and outside Egypt, along with his interest in educational and pastoral work, organizing church services, following up with youth, and supporting families.

The Pope’s birthday also coincides annually with preparations to commemorate the ecclesiastical lottery through which he was chosen for the patriarchal throne, giving this day a doubled spiritual joy among church members who see in His Holiness a symbol of care, balance, and quiet work for the peace of the church and national unity.
