The Damietta Health Directorate confirmed the continued provision of prenatal care services through primary healthcare units, as part of the Ministry of Health and Population’s plan to improve the health of mothers and children, ensure safe pregnancies and natural births, and achieve positive health outcomes for both mother and fetus.
A statement issued by the Damietta Health Directorate explained that prenatal care services start from the early stages of pregnancy, preferably in the first months, and continue until delivery, aiming to maintain the health of the mother and the safety of the fetus.
The prenatal care services provided at primary healthcare units aim to encourage pregnant women to regularly attend pregnancy follow-up visits, conduct comprehensive clinical examinations to assess the health status of the mother and fetus inside the womb, provide necessary health and nutritional education to the pregnant mother, vaccinate against neonatal tetanus for prevention, work to reduce rates of pregnancy- and childbirth-related diseases, and decrease maternal and child mortality rates during and after delivery.
A schedule for regular visits has been set according to the pregnancy age and health condition: once a month during the first six months, twice a month in the seventh and eighth months, once a week in the ninth month, and once every two weeks in high-risk pregnancies.
Pregnant women are encouraged to visit the nearest health unit anytime they feel the need for medical care or when new symptoms appear, to ensure timely medical intervention.
These efforts come within the Ministry of Health and Population’s commitment to provide integrated healthcare and improve the level of medical services offered to pregnant women, contributing to better health indicators for mothers and children nationwide.
