Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that Tehran welcomes a possible US nuclear proposal that is “fair and balanced,” but it has not received any offer for negotiations.

Araghchi added in remarks to state television, “If we receive a reasonable, balanced, and fair proposal from the Americans for negotiations on this matter, we will definitely study it.”

He affirmed that Tehran will not give up its “right to enrich uranium,” but said it can take measures to build trust regarding the “peaceful nature of its nuclear program.”

Araghchi added, “Of course, this is conditional on the other side taking steps to build trust, including lifting part of the sanctions,” noting that Tehran and Washington exchange messages through intermediaries.

The United States, its European allies, and Israel accuse Tehran of using its nuclear program to conceal efforts to develop the capability to produce nuclear weapons. Iran says its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.

Before the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June, which saw Washington join in bombing key nuclear sites, Tehran and Washington held five rounds of nuclear talks but faced major obstacles such as uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, which Western powers want reduced to zero to minimize any possibility of its use in weapons manufacturing.
